The End of the School Year: A Childhood Celebration

As a kid, there was always something magical about the end of the school year. It wasn't just the anticipation of summer break, but the promise of endless days filled with adventures and freedom. Back then, finals didn't weigh heavily on my mind until I hit around twelve, and even then, the last week of school felt like a joyous countdown to freedom rather than a stressful ordeal.

The atmosphere shifted in those final days; the classroom was filled with anticipation, and the usual routines gave way to more relaxed activities. Tests were behind us, and instead, we had more interesting things to do like watching movies or engaging in creative projects. There was something liberating about clearing out our desks and returning borrowed items before leaving for a summer break.

Summer break was a time for exploration, imagination, and joy. I ventured outdoors with siblings and cousins and we enjoyed nature's wonders. Homework became a distant memory, except for the occasional biology project that required us to collect plants. Yet, even then, it felt more like an adventure than a chore.

I firmly believe that summer should be a sanctuary for kids, free from the burdens of homework and deadlines. It's a time for them to recharge, explore their interests, and simply be kids. For me, that meant joining summer camps that included traveling or fun amusement parks.

One of my fondest memories of summer was our family trips with a camper around Finland, often extending our adventures to Sweden and Norway. These journeys were more than just vacations – they were opportunities to bond, discover new cultures, and create lasting memories. In the summer the sun shines until late at night, and in the North there is even Midnight sun for around two months. Because of this it was always possible to be outdoors until late and get more things done during the day.

As I reflect on those carefree days of childhood, I'm reminded of the importance of cherishing these moments. The end of the school year isn't just a milestone; it's a celebration of growth, friendship, and the endless possibilities that lie ahead. As another school year draws to a close, let's embrace the spirit of summer and make memories that will last a lifetime.
