AT HOME OR IN CLASS, EDUCATORS TALK MOI PANDA

Recently, I attended the Bett UK 2023 EdTech Conference in London, England. The three day conference was a melting pot for the latest in education and technology. It was an opportunity to take the pulse of the education sector and to conduct some market research by speaking with potential users about Moi Panda’s mission to help kids become digital global citizens by creating meaningful cultural friendships. Here is what they had to say as they navigated the app for the first time.

DIGITAL PEN PALS WITH AN INTERACTIVE TWIST

An English teacher loved the idea of using Moi Panda as a digital pen pal tool to help her students broaden their cultural understanding of the world. Moi Panda’s unique culture-based missions invite kids to share and learn about culture through different means of engagement like video, audio, dance, or language. Their dynamic nature helps to keep kids engaged while instilling in them a sense of pride in sharing their culture. As they earn points for celebrating who they are, they gain a holistic worldview of the beauty and nuance that exists in different cultures around the world. The classroom could be brought to life as students jump on the app for 20 minutes, quickly ask their friend to share something about their world, and then reconvene as a class to discuss how cultures are connected, yet unique in their own way.

CREATING SPACE FOR INTROVERTS

A Technology teacher wants to use the app in their classroom to help introverts. With any group of kids, there are some who are introverted, and some who are extroverted. As students form friend groups, introverts sometimes struggle socially and begin to feel isolated, but an app like Moi Panda gives these students a platform to connect with others in their class. The app scaffolds social interaction for kids through collaborative missions and co-parenting of digital pets. This teacher identified the potential for the app to help some of their students develop their social skills and feel included.

AT HOME

Many teachers thought of ways to use the app as an in-class learning tool, but one teacher wanted to take the app beyond the classroom as a tutor. It can be hard to motivate tired students during an evening tutoring session, so tutors often need to get creative in how they deliver their lessons. Using Moi Panda as an at-home learning tool that supplements traditional in-class learning material strengthens the foundation of student learning through the diversification of delivery. Moi Panda as a tutoring tool would get students excited for their tutoring sessions, making their learning more fun, and equipping tutors with another tool in their arsenal.

CONTINUED GROWTH

Moi Panda addresses the demand for better at-home parent-assisted learning tools, and speaking with teachers/educators confirmed that Moi Panda can assist in-class learning too. The app helps kids create cross cultural international friendships, yet can also bring members of the same classroom together. One of Moi Panda’s greatest strengths is its versatility, it can be used on the couch with Mom or Dad, in the classroom with a teacher, or around the dinner table with the tutor. It can be used to get to know the person sitting next to you a little bit better, or to help you create a meaningful friendship on the other side of the world.
